Swedish Bandy Championship Finals (1991-2012) |
Studenternas idrottsplats , often abbreviated as Studenternas IP , is a sports stadium in the Swedish city of Uppsala . The local clubs IFK Uppsala , Unik BK and Enköpings SK use the sports facility to host their home games in Bandy and the clubs IK Sirius in football and the Uppsala 86ers in American football . Between 1991 and 2012 the stadium hosted the finals of the Swedish Bandy Championship .
background
The Studenternas IP sports facility was inaugurated in 1909 and expanded and renovated several times in the following years. The system currently offers 8,000 spectators for bandy and 6,500 for summer sports. For the finals around the bandy championships, the stadium was supplemented with additional stands, so that over 20,000 spectators could watch the finals.
The facility is located in the south of Uppsala on the southern edge of the city park Stadsträdgården west of the river Fyrisån . The bandy hall, which consists of two playing areas, is located in the south, the stadium for summer sports including athletics facilities is located in the north of the sports facility.
Discussions about building a new sports arena began as early as the 1990s, and in 2010 a specific project for 10,000 spectators was initiated. In spring 2014, the city of Uppsala announced that it would replace the stadium with a new building. The stadium has been demolished since autumn 2017; the new building is scheduled to go into operation in 2020.
