Hans Jürgen Stefan Schwarz (born April 18, 1969 in Malmö ) is a former Swedish football player . The defensive player, whose German father emigrated to Sweden in the 1960s, took part in two world championships and one European championship with the Swedish national team and was a key player in the Swedish national team in the 1990s.

Career

Player career

Schwarz started playing football at the age of 5 and, after many years of experience as a young kicker at the Malmö club Kulladals FF, joined the youth team of Malmö FF in 1983 as a 13-year-old . From 1985 to 1987 he was a junior player at the German club Bayer 04 Leverkusen, with which he won the A youth championship in 1985/86 . Then he went back to Malmö FF.

Under the direction of trainer Roy Hodgson , he developed in the Allsvenskan alongside players such as Jonas Thern , Roger Ljung and Martin Dahlin to a pillar of the club and won the Swedish championship with the team in 1988 and the Svenska Cup a year later . He subsequently became a national player and made his debut in the 2-1 victory over the United Arab Emirates national team on February 14, 1990, when he came on for Pontus Kåmark in the 82nd minute and a short time later with the winning goal the game decided in favor of his team. He then belonged to the Swedish squad at the 1990 World Cup finals. He was used in all three games and retired with the national selection after three defeats in the group stage behind Brazil , Costa Rica and Scotland . Following the tournament, the German record champions FC Bayern Munich reported interest in a commitment, but ultimately refrained from doing so because Black did not want to renounce his Swedish citizenship in favor of a German passport.

After the tournament, Black therefore moved to Portugal to the traditional club Benfica Lisbon, trained by his compatriot Sven-Göran Eriksson . At the end of his first season in southern Europe, he won the Portuguese championship with the club. He also stayed in the national selection and took part in the 1992 European Championship in his home country. As a regular, he played all three games in the group stage, but missed the semi-finals against the German national team after seeing his second yellow card in the final group game against England and being suspended. In the season following the tournament, he won another title with the Portuguese Cup, before the national championship title was won again in 1994.

During the 1994 World Cup finals , black was able to convince again. As a regular player, he moved into the quarter-finals against the Romanian national team with the national selection , but was sent off with a yellow-red card in the 101st minute of the game . So he could not help the team in the semi-finals, which were lost to Brazil, and only played his sixth game in the tournament when they beat Bulgaria 4-0 in the "small final".

After the tournament ended, Schwarz decided to switch to the Premier League . The new employer was Arsenal FC , who transferred around £ 1.8m to Portugal for the defensive player. However, he only stayed in England for one season and then moved on to Fiorentina . With the club he won the Italian Cup in 1996 and after a 2-1 win against champions Inter Milan with two goals from Gabriel Batistuta the Supercoppa Italiana .

In 1998, Black moved to the Primera División for Valencia CF before returning to England after a season. In 1999 he was awarded the Guldbollen as Sweden's Footballer of the Year. Until 2003 he played for Sunderland AFC on the island, after which he ended his active career.

After the active time

Since the end of his career, Schwarz has been running the Stefan Schwarz Pro Sports Sweden AB player agency in Malmö. Schwarz now lives with his Portuguese wife and three children in Cascais near Lisbon .

After Per-Ola Ljung's dismissal as assistant coach at the reigning triple winner Helsingborgs IF , Schwarz followed in early June 2012 as Conny Karlsson's new assistant . When the latter resigned from his position due to the already tense relationship with the sports management, he got a new boss in the Norwegian Åge Hareide a week later.
