Guldbollen ( German  Golden Ball ) is a trophy awarded by the Swedish daily Aftonbladet and the Swedish Football Association (SvFF). It has been awarded to the best Swedish footballer of the year every year since 1946 . From 1946 to 1965 the award was given in cooperation with Stockholms-Tidningen . The election, together with the Austrian sports radio footballer election, is the oldest award for a footballer of the year. Finland followed in 1947 and England in 1948 .

The first title holder was Gunnar Gren in 1946 , Zlatan Ibrahimović is the record holder with eleven awards received between 2005 and 2016. In addition, Bo Larsson (1965, 1973), Ronnie Hellström (1971, 1978), Ralf Edström (1972, 1974), Glenn Hysén (1983, 1988), Tomas Brolin (1990, 1994), Patrik Andersson (1995, 2001) Henrik Larsson (1998, 2004) and Freddie Ljungberg (2002, 2006) have received several awards. Between 1947 and 1949, three brothers in a row, Gunnar Nordahl , Bertil Nordahl and Knut Nordahl, were awarded the trophy.

Since 1990, the corresponding award for women's football has been given under the name Diamantbollen .
