The FK Krasnodar ( Russian Футбольный клуб Краснодар ; scientific transliteration : Futbol'nyj klub Krasnodar ) is a Russian football club from the city of Krasnodar on the Kuban .
history
FK Krasnodar was founded in 2008 by Sergei Galitski , the owner of the retail chain Magnit . In the first season succeeded with the third place in the 2nd division the direct promotion to the second highest division of Russia , since several clubs could not participate due to the financial crisis. Here the club was able to occupy tenth place in the final table in 2009. Since Saturn Ramenskoye withdrew voluntarily from the Premjer League , FK Krasnodar was included in the Premjer League as the fifth place in the 1st football division in 2010 . In the first two seasons in the Russian football club, the team from Krasnodar occupied places in the middle of the table.
By fifth place in the 2013/14 season , the club took part in qualifying for the UEFA Europa League , where they defeated JK Kalev Sillamäe , Diósgyőri VTK and Real Sociedad San Sebastián in succession. In the group stage of the 2014-15 UEFA Europa League Krasnodar FK beside the hit Lille and Everton on the Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg and retired Ranking third in the competition.
In the 2014/15 season , the team fought for the runner-up in the domestic league until the last match day, but had to let CSKA Moscow pass and took part again in qualifying for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League with third place in the table . In the two qualifying rounds, the team was able to prevail against ŠK Slovan Bratislava and HJK Helsinki and, as in the previous year, reached the group stage. With Borussia Dortmund , PAOK Thessaloniki and FK Qəbələ , Krasnodar completed Group C of the competition. After the fifth match day, the team made it to the sixteenth finals of the Europa League for the first time in its history, where they were eliminated by Sparta Prague .
In the Premjer League 2015/16 , FK Krasnodar finished fourth in the final table. Thus, the club was entitled to enter the fight for the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League in the third qualifying round , where they met FC Birkirkara . Both games were won against the Maltese club (3-0 and 3-1). In the following play-off round against FK Partizani Tirana , Krasnodar won 4-0 at home and played 0-0 away. Thus, the team from Krasnodar played in the group stage of the competition and met in Group I against FC Schalke 04 , FC Red Bull Salzburg and OGC Nice . On October 6, 2016, Igor Shalimov was introduced to the post of head coach as the successor to Oleg Kononov . In the Europa League, FK Krasnodar was second behind Schalke and met Fenerbahçe Istanbul in the round of 32 . Krasnodar won 1-0 at their home stadium and 1-1 in Turkey. After two defeats (1: 2 in Spain and 0: 2 on home soil) , the club was unable to make it into the quarter-finals of the European competition in the round of 16 against Celta Vigo . In the national premier league 2016/17 , FK Krasnodar again achieved fourth place in the table, which again entitled the club to start in the third qualifying round of the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League . Here they met Lyngby BK , both games were won against the Danish club (2: 1 and 3: 1). In the subsequent play-off round against FK Red Star Belgrade , Krasnodar won the home game 3-2, but lost the second leg in the Serbian capital 2-1 and was eliminated from the competition due to the away goals rule .
Stadion
The club initially played its home games in the 32,000-seat Kuban Stadium , which was built in 1960. FK Krasnodar shared their home ground with city rivals FK Kuban Krasnodar . Sergei Galizki has been building the Krasnodar Stadium with 34,291 seats on the Vostochno-Kruglikowskaya road in the north-east of the city since 2013 , which was inaugurated on October 9, 2016 in front of 34,200 spectators with a friendly between Russia and Costa Rica (3: 4) . The first game of FK Krasnodar took place in the new stadium on October 20, 2016 as part of the UEFA Europa League against FC Schalke 04 (0: 1).
