Igor Michailowitsch Schalimow ( Russian Игорь Михайлович Шалимов , scientific transliteration Igor 'Michajlovič Šalimov ; born February 2, 1969 in Moscow ) is a former Russian soccer player and former head coach of the Russian national soccer team .

Shalimov began his career at Spartak Moscow . In 1991 he moved to Italy to US Foggia . There he knew how to convince and was lured away by Inter Milan after one season . After two years he moved to the German Bundesliga for MSV Duisburg . Here he played 21 games before returning to Italy to Udinese Calcio in 1995 via FC Lugano in Switzerland . But even here he only stayed for a short time and moved to FC Bologna at the beginning of the 1996/97 season . In the 1998/99 season he was at SSC Napoli . After he was banned for two years in 1999 for doping with nandrolone , he ended his career.

Shalimov made his debut in 1990 in the national football team of the USSR . In total, he played 20 times for the selection until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, where he scored two goals, and took part in the 1990 World Cup. He then played four times for the selection of the CIS , for which he took part in the 1992 European Championship . After the tournament he became a Russian national player . By 1998 he played 23 times in the national jersey and scored three goals. He played with Russia at the 1996 European Championship .

From May 2008 to April 2011 Shalimov was the head coach of the Russian women's national team . Since then he has worked as a sports director for the Russian Football Association.
