The FK Baltika ( Russian Футбольный Клуб "Балтика", Futbolny Klub "Baltika" ), known in German-speaking countries as Baltika Kaliningrad , is a football club from the Russian city of Kaliningrad , founded in 1954, making it the westernmost professional club in Russia and taking part from 1996 to 1998 Play operation of the Premjer League . history
Soviet Union
The club was founded in December 1954 as Pishchevik Kaliningrad (Пищевик). A first success was in 1957, still as a lower class club, reaching the round of 16 of the Soviet Cup . In 1958 the name was changed to Baltika . From 1971 until the dissolution of the USSR , Baltika played in the third class 2nd division .
Russia
When the new Russian league was founded, after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992, Baltika was placed in the 2nd division , the third division, but was able to rise as champions in the first year. After three years in the second highest Russian league , he was promoted to the upper house of Russian football in 1995 as the second division champions. In 1996 the team was seventh and in 1997 eighth, which qualified the club for participation in the 1998 UI Cup . In the UI Cup, the team was able to prevail in the first round against Spartak Varna and in the second round against FK AS Trenčín , but failed in the third round because of the away goals rule at the Serbian club Vojvodina Novi Sad . In the 1998 season , however, the team rose from the Premjer League again. Since then, the club has seen two relegations to the third division. Since 2006, Baltika played stable in the second highest Russian league. In the 2015/16 season , the 17th place in the table almost meant the third relegation to the Perwenstwo PFL . However, FK Baltika was allowed to remain in the 1st Division as a replacement for FK Volga Nizhny Novgorod , which had withdrawn from the game.
