The 1998 Supreme Division was the seventh season of the Russian top division in football. It began on March 28, 1998 and ended on October 30, 1998. Spartak Moscow became champions for the sixth time . Baltika Kaliningrad and FK Tyumen had to relegate .

mode

Before the start of the season, the name was changed from Oberste Liga to Supreme Division and the number of teams was reduced to 16. They played against each other twice on a total of 30 match days, divided into a first half and a second half. The last two clubs were relegated.
