The Premjer League 2002 was the eleventh season of the Russian top division in football and the first under the new name. It began on March 8, 2002 and ended on November 17, 2002. Master was after a play-off between the Moscow clubs Lokomotiv and CSKA tied on points .

The Premjer League replaced the Supreme Division as the highest league in Russia from the 2002 season . The 16 teams played against each other twice on a total of 30 match days, divided into a first and a second round. Since two clubs were tied at the top of the table at the end of the season, a playoff for the championship was planned. The last two clubs were relegated.

    Playoff

    Since Lokomotiv Moscow and CSKA Moscow were tied at the top of the table at the end of the season, a playoff for the championship was held. On November 21, 2002 Lokomotiv Moscow won 1-0 (6 min; D. Loskow ) in the Dynamo Stadium and thus secured the championship title.
