Division 1 2000/01

The Division 1 2001/02 was the 64th season of the highest French football league. The season began on July 27, 2001 with the opening game Girondins Bordeaux against FC Nantes Atlantique (2-0) and ended on May 4, 2002.

As the climbers arrived FC Sochaux , the FC Lorient and Montpellier HSC from Division 2 to do so. Olympique Lyon ended the season as champions and became the successor to FC Nantes. Lyon, Racing Lens and AJ Auxerre (qualifier) qualified for the UEFA Champions League . Paris Saint-Germain , Girondins Bordeaux and FC Lorient qualified for the UEFA Cup through the two cup competitions. The following year’s UEFA Intertoto Cup played OSC Lille , ES Troyes AC and FC Sochaux. FC Metz and FC Lorient had to relegate to Division 2 .
