Division 1 1997/98

The Division 1 1998/99 was the 61st season of the highest French football league. The season began on August 7, 1998 with the opening game Le Havre AC against FC Metz (0-0) and ended on May 29, 1999.

As climbers were AS Nancy , the FC Lorient and Sochaux from Division 2 to do so. The season as champions ended the Girondins Bordeaux and became the successor of Racing Lens . Bordeaux, Olympique Marseille and Olympique Lyon qualified for the UEFA Champions League . AS Monaco as well as FC Nantes Atlantique and Lens qualified for the UEFA Cup via the two cup competitions. In the UEFA Intertoto Cup the following year played Stade Rennes , Montpellier and FC Metz after Paris Saint-Germain had waived participation. FC Lorient, FC Sochaux and FC Toulouse had to relegate to Division 2 .
