← Division 1 1941/42 |
The Division 1 1942-43 was the fourth staging of the French football league during the Second World War , the occupation of France by the German Wehrmacht (summer 1940) and the subsequent division of the remaining after the annexation of Alsace and parts of Lorraine region into a free, reception and - near the border with Belgium , Germany and Switzerland - a forbidden zone (zone libre, zone occupée, zone interdite) .
These so-called "war championships " (championnats de guerre) between 1939 and 1945 - unlike the national cup - do not count as official competitions, and the respective winners of one of their seasons have therefore not won an official title. Racing Lens won the northern group and Toulouse FC won the southern group .
societies
All 18 teams that had belonged to the first division in the previous season also took part in this draw. In addition, 14 teams were added; for the first time since 1940, five teams from the “prohibited zone” near the border were represented. The 32 participants in the first division were again divided into two regional groups (north and south), whose respective area corresponded to that of the occupied and the unoccupied zone:
- North: AC Amiens , Le Havre AC , FC Rouen , Racing Paris , the Paris war syndicate Stade Français / CAP , Red Star Olympique , Stade Reims , Stade Rennes Université Club , Girondins AS du Port from Bordeaux, plus the newcomers Excelsior AC Roubaix , OIC Lille , SC Fives , Racing Lens , AS Troyes-Savinienne , US Le Mans as well as the war-related syndicate of two Peugeot "works clubs" from FC Sochaux and AS Valentigney .
- South: AS Saint-Étienne , Toulouse FC , FC Sète , US Olympique Montpellier , Olympique Alès , Olympique Nîmes , Olympique Marseille , AS Cannes , OGC Nice and the newcomers FC Annecy , FC Grenoble , Lyon OU , AS Clermont-Ferrand , ES Aiglons Brive , USA Perpignan and AS Avignon .
Season course
The two-point rule applied ; in the event of a tie, the goal quotient was decisive for the placement. This season the games lasted 90 minutes again; each team had to deploy at least four amateur footballers, while the deployment of foreign players was prohibited.
With a total of 1,750 hits in 480 matches, the average was 3.6 goals per game; In the northern group, however, the average number of hits was almost 3.9, in the south only 3.4. The most successful goal scorers in the north were Stefan Dembicki alias "Stanis" from Lens with 43, in the south Emmanuel Aznar from Olympique Marseille with 45 goals this season.
For the coming season there was a reorganization of the highest French league, even if it only lasted one year, in which no club teams competed against each other.
Group north
This group saw the Racing Club Lens almost going it alone, which could even afford a home defeat against the second-placed “Red Devils” from Rouen at the end of the season, especially since the northern French only faced two opponents in the away games (Red Star and Sochaux-Valentigney ) had to give up and had by far the most dangerous attack (98 hits) of this season. For group third SC Fives this was the last season in Division 1 ; the Liller suburb club merged with the neighboring Olympique Iris Club before the end of the war.

Group south
Toulouse did not give up a single point in front of their own audience, also took a point away from two of his three pursuers (Sète and newcomer Grenoble) and thus laid the foundation for his group victory. Even Marseilles “100-goal storm” was unable to prevent this; Olympique had set a goal record with their 20-2 win against the bottom line Avignon, which will last well into the 21st century. "Manu" Aznar scored nine goals alone, including the first eight of this completely one-sided encounter.
