Gabriel Benezech

Gabriel Benezech (born June 5, 1916 in Bizanos , Département Pyrénées-Atlantiques , † April 22, 1992 in Ganges (Hérault) ) was a French football player .

Career

The left-back Benezech played as a young adult at RCO Agde before the summer of 1936 from second division FC Nancy was signed and thus the age of 20 years, the leap into the professional football managed. At Nancy, at a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible, he immediately became a regular player. The defender, who is considered to be physically strong, aroused the interest of the first division club FC Antibes , who signed him in 1937. Even in the top French league, he was one of the top performers of his new team, but in 1939 he could not prevent the descent of Antibes. At the same time, due to the beginning of the Second World War, regular game operations were ceased anyway.

After a temporary break in his career, Benezech returned to the football field in 1942 to take part with Toulouse FC in the unofficially still taking place of the championship. In 1943 he became champions of the southern group with the team. When the official game operations were resumed in 1945, he was in the squad of the second division team SO Montpellier . Around 1946 he held the position of player- coach there for some time . However, he gave up the coaching position after a short time, while he was able to play again as a player with Montpellier from 1946 in the first division. After he did not get beyond irregular missions in the 1948/49 season, he moved to the second division AS Béziers in the summer of 1949 . At Béziers he was firmly on the defensive until he ended his professional career in 1951, the year of his 35th birthday. After his active days, Benezech, who had never made it into the national team of his country, owned a sportswear shop in Montpellier and also worked as a sports teacher.
