The Annecy Football Club is a French football club from Annecy . The now in the third highest division, the National (D3) , had a professional status under the name Football Club d'Annecy both in the 1940s and between 1989 and 1993; During this time the club played temporarily in Division 2 .
history
The Football Club d'Annecy was founded in May 1927 and initially only played on a regional level. As champions of the Division d'honneur , the club took professional status in 1942, but only retained it for one year, as professional football was banned in France in 1943. After the end of the Second World War , the club played again in the regional Honneur division and qualified as champions for the newly created Championnat de France Amateur in 1948 , to which the team belonged continuously until its restructuring in 1970. Under player- coach Stanislas Golinski , the club won its first national title in 1960 when the team was crowned French amateur champions. As a result, the club made the front page of France Football .
After the league reform, FC Annecy held three seasons in the newly created Championnat de France National before the team relegated to the regional amateur area. After returning to the fourth-class Championnat de France Amateur 1980, the club returned in 1984 as champions of Division 4 F in the highest amateur class. Also in the national, the stay lasted only four seasons and as the second table of its season, the club rose to Division 2 B in 1988, for which the club returned to professional status. Initially placed in the lower midfield, the club, under coach Guy Stéphan , achieved ninth place in the club's history in the 1991/92 season. Under his successor Christian Coste , however, the club missed relegation in the following season. After financial problems, the club withdrew from the national game after the beginning of the 1993/94 season .
Under the new name Annecy Football Club , the club entered the lower amateur area, but managed to return to the top regional league after promotions in 1995 and 1997 respectively. In the sixth-class division d'honneur Rhône-Alpes , the club narrowly missed promotion to the national amateur level in 1999 and 2001 as runner-up behind FC Gaillard and FC Echirolles, respectively .
In the 2018/19 season, the club plays in the fourth-class National 2 under coach Hélder Esteves .
