Elemental is the fourth studio album by the British band Tears For Fears . The album was released on June 7, 1993 on Phonogram and Mercury Records .

History of origin

After he separated from Curt Smith in late 1991 , Tears For Fears was formally just Roland Orzabal. He teamed up with guitarist Alan Griffiths and keyboardist and producer Tim Palmer . Griffiths was the guitarist of The Escape, who had already supported Tears For Fears on concert tours in 1983 and who had also belonged to Nicky Holland, with whom Orzabal had written several songs for the previous album The Seeds of Love . Tim Palmer had previously worked with Tears For Fears on their compilation album Tears Roll Down (Greatest Hits 82-92) . With Griffiths, Orzabal composed all the songs except Cold , a tribute to John Lennon , which Orzabal wrote alone. The album was recorded in Neptune's Kitchen, Orzabal's home studio in Bath , West England , and mixed by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering in Portland , Maine. Roland's younger brother Julian Orzabal has a guest appearance at Cold .

reception

The Musikexpress attested Orzabal and the album that he had "lost the idiosyncratic melodies between art and commerce".

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic said "he backs away from the cinematic production of The Seeds of Love , preferring a more direct and soulful style of pop music" (Eng .: he distances himself from the cinematic production of The Seeds of Love and pulls one more direct and soulful pop music style).
