Raoul and the Kings of Spain is the fifth studio album by the British band Tears For Fears . The album was released on October 9, 1995 on Epic Records .
History of origin
Orzabal composed again with Alan Griffiths for the second album after the separation from Curt Smith . The album was recorded with studio musicians in Los Angeles and Orzabal's home studio in Bath and produced by Orzabal, Griffiths and Tim Palmer . The rhythm section was the American drummer Brian McLeod, known as the songwriter for Sheryl Crow's album Tuesday Night Music Club, and Gail Ann Dorsey, who later became David Bowie's bassist . For Me and My Big Ideas has Oleta Adams a guest appearance.
The release of the album, which was largely completed in 1994, was delayed by the change from Mercury Records to Epic Records . The album title refers to Orzabal's Spanish-Argentinian roots. Orzabal was born as Roland Jaime Orzabal de la Quintana. Orzabal's son, born in 1991, is named Raoul.
reception
Tom Demalon reviewed the album for the music database Allmusic as uninspired ("There seems to be a lack of ideas"). The beautiful, but unexcited music scratches the limits of progressive rock , but is devalued by Orzabal's incomprehensible to silly lyrics.
