Everybody Loves a Happy Ending is the sixth studio album by the British band Tears for Fears . It was released on September 14, 2004 in the United States and on March 7, 2005 in Europe.
History of origin
Using the song Mad World for a film score reunited the quarreling Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith in 2000. The song was written by Tears for Fears, reinterpreted by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews for the 2001 film Donnie Darko , and released as a single in 2003. Smith and Orzabal, along with songwriter and producer Charlton Pettus, began composing the album in 2000 after LA Reid signed them to Arista Records . The release was originally planned for 2003. With Reid's departure from Arista to Def Jam Recordings , those plans were abandoned and the duo separated from Arista to release the album on various labels in the United States and Europe.
