The Seeds of Love (dt. The seed of love ) is the third studio album by the British band Tears For Fears . The album was released on September 25, 1989 at Phonogram and Mercury Records and is assigned to the genre New Wave .

History of origin

Roland Orzabal started work on a new music album in January 1987 with Nicky Holland , a trained pianist who had already supported Tears For Fears on the tour for the album Songs from the Big Chair . The two wrote five of the eight titles together. At Sowing the Seeds of Love Orzabal wrote with Curt Smith. The producer duo Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley were scheduled to produce the album . However, the collaboration turned out to be difficult, so that Orzabal eventually took over the management together with David Bascombe. The album was recorded in Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in Wiltshire with numerous guest musicians and the American singer and pianist Oleta Adams , who was discovered by the band .

Publication and chart success

Four weeks before the album was released, Sowing the Seeds of Love was released as a single in August 1989 and reached top positions in the charts (No. 5 in the British single charts , No. 2 in the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 11 in the German single charts .) .

The album made it to the top of the UK album charts and stayed there for 30 weeks. The album was awarded a platinum record by the British phono association BPI in October 1989.

In the United States, the album came to number 8 on the Billboard 200 with a retention time of 34 weeks. The American association RIAA also certified a platinum record.

In Germany it reached place 5 and lasted 37 weeks, in Switzerland place 8 and 11 weeks, in Austria place 13 and 8 weeks. The German Music Association certified a gold record.

reception

Stanton Swihart from Allmusic sees the album with a certain stringency because of the internal disputes: “Like their other albums, The Seeds of Love continues the concept of moving from hurting to healing to beginning anew (the hit Sowing the Seeds of Love ) to growing apart . “(Eng: Like their other albums, The Seeds of Love continues the concept of progression from injury to healing and a new beginning (the hit Sowing the Seeds of Love) to falling apart.).
