Pino Palladino
Pino Palladino (born October 17, 1957 in Cardiff , Wales ) is a Welsh bassist of Italian descent.
Career
Pino Palladino started playing the bass when he was 17. He names the musicians James Jamerson and Jaco Pastorius as his role models . The much sought-after studio musician has played for Pino Daniele , Gary Numan , Tony Banks , Phil Collins , Elton John , Pete Townshend , Claudio Baglioni , Tears for Fears , Stephan Eicher , John Mayer , Paul Young , Rick Wright and David Gilmour since the 1980s by Pink Floyd , Steve Hackett and one-time for Queen + Paul Rodgers . In 2005 he became a member of the John Mayer Trio, with whom he released the live album Try! recorded. The trio performed sporadically in the following years, including at the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival .
From 2007 to 2011 he was seen frequently in the weekly television program "One Shot Not" by the French drummer Manu Katché on the German / French channel arte . With Katché he formed a rhythm group that is featured on many recordings, sometimes together with guitarist Dominic Miller .
In 2011/2012 he played with D'Angelo and Adele . In the following years Palladino toured again with The Who, including during The Who Hits 50! - Trip. Since 2016 he has accompanied John Mayer on his tour The Search for Everything. At the concerts, Palladino is part of both the band and the trio. He also belongs to Chris Dave and the Drumhedz .
Style and influence
He attracts special attention through his outstanding playing on the fretless bass (here especially for Paul Young , Claudio Baglioni , Joan Armatrading and Oleta Adams ) and his work in the field of neo-soul . For the latter, the album Voodoo by D'Angelo probably be described as style icon.
Instruments
In the earlier years Pino Palladino mainly played a fretless Music Man StingRay bass . At recordings and concerts in recent years, he was mainly seen with his 61 Fender Precision Bass in Fiesta Red. Pino also plays a 63 Fender P-Bass, a black Fender Jaguar Bass (Who Tour), a white Moon Larry Graham Signature J-style bass, a Lakland Joe Osborn Signature J-style bass and an 82 Squier Jazz Bass.
On some recordings, such as Give Blood by Pete Townshend , I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down by Paul Young or Shouting Stage by Joan Armatrading , he uses a Boss OC-2 octave.
