Queen + Paul Rodgers was the cooperation between the remaining members of the rock group Queen and guest singer Paul Rodgers , which existed from 2004 to 2009 . In May 2009, Rodgers announced that he was leaving the project.

The formation consisted of the two Queen members Brian May (guitar and vocals) and Roger Taylor (drums and vocals) as well as the singer Paul Rodgers .

Additional musicians to accompany concerts were Queens live keyboardist Spike Edney (keyboards and vocals), Danny Miranda (bass and vocals) and Jamie Moses (guitar and vocals).

Spike Edney (including SAS Band , Bob Geldof ) has been Queens keyboardist for live performances since 1984.

Jamie Moses was guitarist in Brian May's solo line-up both on the Back to the Light tour in 1992/93 and during the “Another World” tour in 1998. He was also involved in the studio recordings for May's solo album Another World With. In the 1980s and 1990s he worked with Paul Young, The Pretenders and Mike & the Mechanics , among others .

Danny Miranda played bass in the band Blue Öyster Cult and in the Las Vegas edition of Queens Musical We Will Rock You .

The Queen bassist John Deacon is "retired", but has not officially left the band and has given his consent for further concerts.

In May 2009 Paul Rodgers announced that from now on he would no longer be the singer of the project, but would still be available for future, one-off activities such as benefit concerts or temporary help.

Tour dates

The first joint appearance of May, Taylor and Rodgers came on November 11, 2004 in London on the occasion of Queen's induction into the British Music Hall of Fame, which was broadcast on Channel 4 on television. Pino Palladino was heard on bass in the three-song live set .

Concerts and tours by Queen + Paul Rodgers:

  • March 28 to May 14, 2005 - Europe (28 indoor concerts).
  • July 2 to July 15, 2005 - Europe (4 open air concerts).
  • October 8 to November 3, 2005 - Aruba , USA, Japan (9 concerts in total).
  • March 3 to April 13, 2006 - USA, Canada (23 indoor concerts).
  • May 25, 2006 - Las Vegas; Appearance at VH1 Rock Honors with the Foo Fighters as guests.

The "The Cosmos Rocks Tour", which runs through Europe, Dubai and South America, started on September 12, 2008 in Kharkiv with an open-air concert in front of 350,000 spectators and lasted until November 29, 2008.

Publications

Studio recordings

On the occasion of World AIDS Day , Queen + Paul Rodgers published a studio version of Say It's Not True as a free download on their homepages on November 30, 2007 . The vocal parts come from all three members of the band. The song, written by Roger Taylor, was first performed in 2003 as part of Nelson Mandela's " 46664 " AIDS benefit concert and later played on the Queen / Rodgers tours. On December 31, 2007, the song was released as a single. All proceeds from sales will be donated to Mandela's AIDS charity "46664".

In August 2006, Brian May announced on his website that Queen + Paul Rodgers would start studio recording in October. In autumn 2006, February / March 2007 and October / November 2007, May, Taylor and Rodgers had recording sessions lasting several weeks. All three musicians played bass, although it has not yet been decided whether these bass recordings will be included in the final song versions.

In Germany, Switzerland and Austria the album was released on September 12th, 2008, in other European countries on September 15th. The title is The Cosmos Rocks .
