from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SAS Band (derived from Spike's All Star Band ) was founded in 1994 by Spike Edney . He is known for having accompanied Queen at concerts as a keyboard player since the mid-1980s.

The original line-up with Jamie Moses (guitar, vocals), Neil Murray (bass), Cozy Powell (drums) was originally Brian May's band on his first solo tour. Chris Thompson joined as a singer. After the accidental death of Cozy Powell, Eric Singer took his place, as he did on Brian May's second solo tour in 1998. The SAS band still performed in 2009, but with a changing line-up. In addition to Edney, only Jamie Moses and Chris Thompson belong to the regular formation.

Spike Edney has been able to attract numerous well-known musicians for studio recordings or live performances, including Roger Taylor , Brian May and John Deacon from Queen, Chris Thompson ( Manfred Mann's Earth Band ), Fish ( Marillion ), Steve Lukather ( Toto ), Paul Rodgers ( Free , Bad Company ), Ian Anderson ( Jethro Tull ), Paul Young , Steve Hogarth (Marillion), Marti Pellow ( Wet Wet Wet ) and Bob Geldof .

The SAS band has released two albums and one DVD.
