Spike Edney

Spike Edney (born December 11, 1951 ) is a British musician . Since 1984 he has accompanied the rock group Queen in their live performances on the keyboard .

Musical work

In the 1970s, Edney was involved in recordings and tours with soul musicians The Tymes and Ben E. King . He plays keyboard, bass , guitar and trombone . In the following years he worked with Edwin Starr , Duran Duran , The Boomtown Rats , Dexys Midnight Runners , Haircut 100 and The Rolling Stones , among others .

Since the Works tour, Spike Edney has been playing at Queen Keyboard concerts; In addition, he could be heard in some pieces on the piano , on the rhythm guitar (Hammer to Fall) and as a background singer . As a keyboardist, he also worked on the recordings of Queen's studio album A Kind of Magic . During the tours of Queen + Paul Rodgers from 2004 to 2009 and of Queen + Adam Lambert since 2009, Edney plays keyboard again and sings backing vocals.

Edney has been involved in numerous solo projects by Queen's musicians. He was a member of both Roger Taylor's band The Cross and Brian May's live band in the 1990s. He was also the keyboardist in the London production of the musical We Will Rock You .

In the mid-1990s, Edney founded the SAS Band (Spike's All Stars). The recordings and performances of the group took place with changing musicians, including the Queen members Taylor, May and John Deacon as well as u. a. Chris Thompson , Fish , Kiki Dee , Steve Lukather , Paul Rodgers , Ian Anderson and Bob Geldof .
