Haircut 100 , even Haircut One Hundred is a British new wave - band , which in 1980 Beckenham was founded.

biography

The group initially consisted of Nick Heyward (vocals), Les Nemes (bass) and Graham Jones (guitar). Phil Smith (saxophone), Mark Fox (percussion) and Memphis Blair Cunningham (drums) joined them later. The original trio gave themselves the name Captain Pennyworth, which after a while was changed to Boat People and then to Haircut 100.

Haircut 100 received a record deal just one year after it was founded . In October 1981, Bob Sargeant , who had already worked for Breathe and The Beat, produced the first single Favorite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl) , which immediately hit the top 10 of the British singles charts . Under the title Pelican West , the band's debut album was released in early 1982 , from which three other top ten singles were released.

At the height of its success, band founder Nick Heyward left Haircut 100 to pursue a solo career. Mark Fox replaced him as singer. In 1984 the second album Paint and Paint was released . However, Haircut 100 was unable to build on the success of their debut album. Eventually the band broke up in 1984.

Blair Cunningham later played for the Pretenders , where he replaced the unfortunate Martin Chambers. After a brief revival of the formation in 2004, the group announced a comeback in 2009 and has been playing live again ever since.
