Broken China is a progressive rock solo album by Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright from 1996.

overview

The album is a four-part concept album that describes Wright's then-wife Mildred's battle with depression . The two pieces Reaching for the Rail and Breakthrough are sung by Sinéad O'Connor . The record was recorded in Wright's own studio in France (Studio Harmonie). The record was mixed at the Astoria using the Q-Sound surround sound process by James Guthrie . Broken China was Wright's second solo album after Wet Dream in 1978 and the last to be released before his death in September 2008.

Wright asked Pink Floyd's guitarist David Gilmour to help him on the album. Gilmour added the guitar parts to a piece. However, the piece was modified in such a way that Gilmour's part can no longer be heard in the piece that was finally published.

On the DVD David Gilmour in Concert Wright appears as a guest musician and sings there with David Gilmour and his band Breakthrough .

The cover of the album was designed by Pink Floyd's designers Storm Thorgerson and Peter Curzon.
