Laurie Latham

Laurie Latham (* 1955 ) is a British music producer , sound engineer and musician . He was best known for his productions for Paul Young , The Stranglers , Echo & the Bunnymen , Squeeze or The Christians in the 1980s. Some of the most successful songs he has produced include Love of the Common People by Paul Young, Skin Deep by the Stranglers , Lips Like Sugar by Echo & the Bunnymen and Forgotten Town by the music group The Christians.

life and career

Laurie Latham began his career in 1973 as an 18-year-old assistant sound engineer at Maximum Sound Studios, UK, where he learned the technical intricacies of his profession. He also attended courses from the successful Beatles producer George Martin at Surrey University on the art of sound engineering. In the mid-1970s, he was promoted to chief sound engineer and worked with film greats such as the comedian troupe Monty Python and the music icons George Harrison and Manfred Mann . The successful working relationship with Manfred Mann's Earth Band culminated in the hit single Blinded By The Light , which reached number 1 status in the US in the late 1970s. After a brief stint in the United States , Latham returned to the UK and started working on Ian Dury's album with Blackhill Enterprises .

In 1983 he produced Paul Young 's international multi-million seller album No Parlez . The singles Love of the Common People and Wherever I Lay My Hat reached # 1 status in the UK and many other countries. During the 1980s, Latham produced many more successful pop and rock albums that reached high chart positions, including the album (Aural Sculpture) by The Stranglers in 1984, the band Squeeze's album in 1985 and the two albums by the British pop groups The Christians in 1987 and Echo & the Bunnymen .

He continued to be active as a music producer during the 1990s and 2000s. During this time, as a sound engineer and producer, he supervised and produced numerous albums by artists and bands such as Slapp Happy , Jools Holland , Hugh Cornwell , Stereophonics , Ben Waters and Ray Davies .

Laurie Latham now lives and works in the UK as an independent producer and sound engineer .
