Nicky Holland

Nicky Holland (* in Hertfordshire ) is a British pianist, singer and composer.

Holland studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music and continued her education at City University London . There she founded the trio Ravishing Beauties with Virginia Astley and Kate St. John . The Ravishing Beautys performed in rock and punk clubs and toured the UK as opening act with Julian Cope and The Teardrop Explodes . After that she worked as a lounge musician for some time . With the Fun Boy Three she recorded their version of George Gershwin's Summertime as a pianist , then toured with the group through Europe and the USA and took part in their album Waiting, produced by David Byrne .

In 1983 she became keyboardist for The Escape group , which opened up for Tears for Fears . She received an offer from Tears for Fears for a three-month tour, which resulted in a collaboration until 1987. She worked as a composer on several songs on the Seeds of Love album , including the song Rhythm of Life , which later became a hit with Oleta Adams . At the same time, she began composing film music, including for John Hughes ' She's Having a Baby .

In the late 1980s she met Ryuichi Sakamoto in New York , with whose band she toured Japan and the USA in 1990. In 1991 she released her debut album Nicky Holland . She also worked on albums by Cyndi Lauper , Celine Dion , Kathy Sledge and Lisa Taylor . Her album Sense and Sensuality was released in 1997.
