Division 1 1975/76

The Division 1 1976/77 was the 39th staging of the professional French football league. Master for the fourth time after 1965 of the FC Nantes .

The first game day was August 6, 1976, the last game day was June 8, 1977, interrupted by a three-week winter break from December 20 to January 7.

societies

Eligible to participate were those clubs that had finished the previous season no worse than 17th, plus three promoted teams from the second division . Thus, the following teams played for the championship title this season:

Season course

The two-point rule applied ; in the event of a tie, the goal difference was decisive for the placement. The bonus point regulation for particularly “goal-hungry” teams had been abolished this season.

In the first two months, Nice dominated the league, but then "internal friction" had a negative effect, so that a group of four competitors could break away. These teams remained undefeated in front of their own audience throughout the season and only made a few draws there (Bastia two, Nantes three, Saint-Étienne - with only six goals conceded - four and Lens seven draws). Autumn champions were Nantes, but especially the Corsicans with their extremely dangerous wing tongs Džajić / Zimako kept up well into the second half of the season and were only one point behind when they met in January 1977. In Nantes Bastia led 1-0 up to the 84th minute, but at the final whistle it was 3-1 for the "Canaris" and Bastia did not recover from this setback: at the end of the season, the SECB was eleven points behind and also had Lens still have to let it happen.

The experts hadn't had FC Nantes in the summer break in 1976 - the personnel upheaval there seemed too great for them, because not only several regular players, but especially "master maker" Arribas had left the club after 16 years. But his successor Vincent , who came from second division FC Lorient , managed to "create a successful team from the club's talent factory" around a few remaining veterans. Symbolically, these “young savages”, in whose ranks five players had scored more than ten goals, played the defending champion and record champions from Saint-Étienne against the wall on the third last match day, saw to his “changing of the guard” and ended the season with nine points ahead on runner-up Lens.

In the lower part of the table, all three promoted teams were found again, Angers and Rennes immediately had to return to Division 2 , accompanied by Lille OSC. In their place, Racing Strasbourg , AS Monaco and FC Rouen completed the top division field for the following season .
