The 1977/78 UEFA Cup was the 7th edition of the competition and was won by PSV Eindhoven .

From the FR of Germany , Eintracht Braunschweig , Eintracht Frankfurt , FC Bayern Munich and FC Schalke 04 took part in the competition, from the GDR the FC Carl Zeiss Jena and 1. FC Magdeburg , from Austria the Linz ASK and SK Rapid Wien , from Switzerland Servette Geneva and the two Zurich clubs FC and Grasshoppers . For Grasshoppers Zurich, reaching the semi-finals this season was the greatest success so far at European level.
