Jan Poortvliet (born September 21, 1955 in Arnemuiden ) is a Dutch former football player who has been working as a coach since 1996 .
Career
Poortvliet started his career with PSV Eindhoven in 1974 . In nine years in Eindhoven Poortvliet has won the Dutch championship three times, once the Dutch Cup and once the UEFA Cup . In 1983 he moved to Roda JC Kerkrade , after which he went to France to Olympique Nîmes . After three years in France, he went to Belgium and signed a contract with Royal Antwerp . From there he was drawn back to the Grande Nation. Poortvliet moved to AS Cannes for a year. Then the defender let his career end with Eendracht Aalst in Belgium and the Dutch club VCV Zeeland.
Internationally, Poortvliet played for his native Netherlands. He took part in the Football World Cup in Argentina in 1978 and was runner-up with the team. Poortvliet came six times and got a yellow card. Two years later he took part in the 1980 European Football Championship in Italy and retired with Oranje as third party in the preliminary round.
Coaching career
Poortvliet coached the RBC Roosendaal from 1996 to 1997 . After that he did not have a coaching position for a long time. From 2000 to 2001 he was the coach of FC Den Bosch . He then trained Stormvogels Telstar for three years . In the 2007/08 season he was the coach of Helmond Sport and moved to England for Southampton FC for the 2008/09 season . Here he resigned on January 23, 2009 after the financially troubled club had to sell some players and Poortvliet was with a better youth team on the penultimate place in the Football League Championship . In the 2009/10 season he coached FC Eindhoven in the Dutch Eerste Divisie , the following season he went to league rivals Telstar . In the summer of 2012 Poortvliet moved to FC Den Bosch, where he had already worked eleven years earlier.
