Telstar is a Dutch football club in the Velsen district of IJmuiden in North Holland , which plays in the second division, the so-called Eerste Divisie .

history

The association went in 1963 from a merger of the professional football department of IJ.VV Stormvogels ( IJmuidensche Voetbal Vereeniging Stormvogels ) from IJmuiden and VSV ( Velseroorder Sport Vereniging ) from the Velsener district Velserbroek out and was an expression of modernity after the eponymous Telecommunications Satellite (then something very rare) Telstar . From 2001 to 2008 the club operated as Stormvogels Telstar . The predecessor club VSV won the Dutch Cup in 1938 with a 4-1 victory in the final against AGOVV Apeldoorn .

Telstar rose in 1964, a year after the merger, as second in the second division in the top Dutch division, the Eredivisie . The best placements until relegation in 1978 were sixth place in 1974 and seventh place in the following season. The best placement in the second division, the so-called Eerste Divisie , was fourth place in 1982.

The club's stadium is the Schoonenberg sports park with a capacity of 3,625 , which was renamed Rabobank IJmond Stadium in February 2016 after Rabobank IJmond .
