The Go Ahead Eagles Voetbal BV , commonly known as Go Ahead Eagles , is a soccer company from the Dutch Deventer .

history

The club was founded in 1902 as Be Quick (German: Sei Schnell ). 1905 the name was in Deventer Go Ahead Voetbalvereniging ( forward ) changed. Under this name, the club became football champions of the Netherlands four times: 1917 (the Netherlands were not militarily involved in the First World War ), 1920 (decider 1-0 against Blauw Wit Amsterdam ), 1930 and 1933. In 1965 Go Ahead lost the cup final against Feyenoord Rotterdam , but took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965/66 .

The association has had its current name since 1971 , owing to the association's nickname (the eagle is the coat of arms of the city of Deventer). The club colors are red and yellow, the stadium is called “ De Adelaarshorst ” (German: “Der Adlerhorst”). The Go Ahead Eagles played in the Dutch Eredivisie until they were relegated in the 1995/96 season . In the 2004/05 season, the club played in the Eerste Divisie , the second highest Dutch league. Because of financial irregularities, Go Ahead was punished with a point deduction and took 17th place out of 19 teams. With the 2013/2014 season, the club returned to the top Dutch league (Eredivisie) after 17 years. In the 2015/16 season, the club played one season in the Eerste Divisie, and again in the Eredivisie in the 2016/17 season.
