Petrus Wilhelmus "Peter" Arntz (born February 5, 1953 in Leuth ) is a former Dutch football player .
Club career
Arntz was in the Eredivisie from 1970 to 1976 for the Go Ahead Eagles - together with Bert van Marwijk , among others - and then until 1985 at AZ'67 .
The left midfielder in Go Ahead's dress made his debut in the honor division on February 7, 1971 in the De Meer Stadium in a 5-1 defeat by Ajax . His first goal in the top Dutch league he scored on December 19, 1971 in a 2-2 home game against NEC . After 142 games (22 goals) with the team from Deventer, he moved to AZ'67.
With Alkmaar he became Dutch champion and cup winner in 1981 and won the KNVB beker two more times . In 1981 he penetrated with AZ in the finals of the UEFA Cup , which the team lost 4-5 overall. In the semifinals of this competition he had previously scored one of his two goals in a total of 24 European Cup games at FC Sochaux . He made his last league game with AZ Alkmaar on May 25, 1986. In the 1-1 draw against HFC Haarlem , he was passed in the 88th minute.
National team
From 1975 to 1981 Arntz was five times in the Dutch national team. He made his debut on April 30, 1975 in the 0-1 defeat in Antwerp against Belgium , where he came on after the break for Wim van Hanegem . After another mission against Yugoslavia in May 1975, he was appointed to the squad of the Dutch for the 1976 European Championship . At the finals in Yugoslavia he came to a use; in the "small final" he was substituted after 70 minutes against his club mate Kees Kist . Arntz had to wait almost five years for his last two assignments in Orange ; only at the beginning of 1981 did he play one half at the mini World Cup in Uruguay against Italy and in the World Cup qualification against Cyprus .
After the active time
In the 2000s Arntz worked as a scout for AZ Alkmaar.
