The stadium De Adelaarshorst ( German  Der Adlerhorst ) is a football stadium in the eastern Dutch city of Deventer , Overijssel province . It is the home of the Go Ahead Eagles Deventer football club .

history

The stadium was completed and inaugurated in 1920 after the club became Dutch champions in 1917. After the second national championship in 1922, construction began on a new grandstand, which was completed in 1924. After the fourth championship in 1933, the venue received a new main stand. In the 1950s, when the Eagles played in the Dutch premier league, the venue had three grandstands. In the 1960s, De Horst offered the largest capacity with officially 24,000 seats. On September 29, 1965 the audience record was set in the stadium. In the preliminary round of the European Cup Winners' Cup , Go Ahead Eagles Deventer met the Scottish team Celtic Glasgow on September 29, 1965 . A record crowd of 25,000 spectators came to this game. In the 1980s, the capacity of the stadium fell significantly from almost 25,000 to around 6,700 seats, as the IJsseltribune opposite grandstand was converted from standing to seating. Some of the seats for it came from De Kuip in Rotterdam .

Today, the facility is located in a residential area of the city and has four covered grandstands that are close to the edge of the field. The plastic seats in the stands are in the club colors yellow and red. The penultimate renovation in the sports facility took place in 2006. There the old seats from Rotterdam were exchanged for seats from the old Alkmaarderhout stadium of AZ Alkmaar . The stadium then held 6,700 spectators and meets all the safety requirements of the Dutch football association KNVB . During the last renovation in 2015, two grandstands were completely renewed and the capacity increased to 10,400 spectator seats, including 1,800 business seats and 500 seats for guest fans.
