The De Vijverberg (short De Vijverberg ) is a football stadium in the Dutch municipality of Doetinchem in the province of Gelderland . It is the home ground of BV De Graafschap Doetinchem .
history
De Vijverberg Stadium was built in 1954 for De Graafschap Doetinchem, which was founded on February 1st. The property was made available by a local cattle dealer and within five months a system with wooden stands was built. With a game between De Graafschap Doetinchem and Fortuna '54 (1-1), the stadium was inaugurated on September 4th in front of 12,000 spectators.
In 1986 the Vijverberg main stand was rebuilt and covered. After the renovation work, the rank had 3,000 places. In the summer of 1998, construction work began on a fundamental renovation of the facility. All four old stands were demolished and replaced. The tiers were built closer to the playing field. The inauguration of the renewed sports facility was celebrated on August 12, 2000 with the game De Graafschap against the Spanish team from Deportivo Alavés (0-0). Today the stadium offers 12,600 covered seats. Instead of underfloor heating , a system with a film that is pulled over the lawn is used.
Until March 2007 the stadium was owned by the club. Due to financial difficulties, the club had to sell the stadium to the municipality of Doetinchem.
