The De Geusselt stadium is a football stadium in the north of the Dutch city of Maastricht , the capital of the province of Limburg . The venue, completed in 1961, replaced the De Boschpoort stadium ; in which the football club MVV Maastricht played for 51 years. The first game in the new stadium took place on January 15, 1962. The facility is located in Park De Geusselt . In the vicinity of the home of MVV Maastricht there are several large and small football fields and hockey fields . Today the stadium has an audience capacity of 10,000 covered seats.

The stadium has been renovated several times since it opened. The first major renovation measures in the 1980s were the removal of the running track around the playing field and newly built grandstands, which, however, reduced the capacity. In addition, the lawn was rotated 90 degrees . In the early 2000s, the corners of the stadium were closed and the last standing area was converted into a seating area. In the corners of the stadium and on the back of the stands there are office buildings in which companies have settled.
