The Alkmaarderhout was a football stadium in the Dutch city of Alkmaar , North Holland Province . It is the former home of the AZ Alkmaar football club from the Eredivisie .
history
The stadium, built in 1948 with 8,914 seats, was initially the home ground of the Alkmaarsche Boys , and later also of Alkmaar'54 , which in 1967 merged with FC Zaanstreek to form AZ'67 , today's AZ Alkmaar. The stadium was the site of winning the title in 1980/81 and advancing to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in the 2004/05 season .
The end as the home ground of AZ Alkmaar
The club management's plan to modernize AZ Alkmaar also included the construction of a new stadium. Since the 2006/07 season, the club has played its home games in the AFAS stadium (opened in August 2006 as the DSB stadium ) directly on the A9. The last game in Alkmaarderhout was a friendly between two teams, led by Michael Buskermolen and Barry van Galen , two club legends from AZ who ended their active careers after the 2005/06 season. Then the demolition of the stadium began.
