The Young Americans is an American artist group that combines choral singing with choreography .

Emergence

Milton C. Anderson founded the group in 1962. The Young Americans made a name for themselves as the world's first group to combine choreographic interludes with choral singing, making them the first show choir in America to be present in almost every high school can be found in the United States.

In 1968 the Young Americans won an Oscar for best documentary film with the documentary of the same name . During the 1970s, they made national and international concert tours and performed in Madison Square Garden , among others . Tours in the South Pacific and the Far East followed in the 1980s. For decades, the Young Americans were guests on the big US TV shows with Julie Andrews, Andy Williams, Judy Garland, Bing Crosby and many others and worked with world stars such as Fred Astaire, Ed Sullivan, Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis and Gene Kelly. They gave special concerts for the American Presidents Ford, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton and organized major international events such as the opening of the Olympics for the disabled in Salt Lake City.

Since 1992, the Young Americans have also been traveling around the world as part of a MUSIC OUTREACH TOUR and doing educational work at schools and various institutions.

In 2002 the Young Americans founded the "California Pacific College of the Performing Arts", which is now known as The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts and is a successful independent artist in the fields of dance, singing, acting and education for the work of Young American and beyond for stage, film, television, and industry-related professions and teaching. In doing so, the college promotes the unique educational approaches that Young Americans have developed over time (read in the book Choices by Milton C. Anderson, see reference below).

Outreach tour concept

Cast the outreach tour

In 1992 The Young Americans started an educational initiative: the Music Outreach Tour.

These include year-round series of three-day workshops at general education schools, initially in the entire USA and since 2000 also in Australia , New Zealand , Great Britain , Ireland , the Ukraine , Luxembourg , the Netherlands , Sweden , Japan and the Federal Republic of Germany . In 2009 The Young Americans visited Russia for the first time as part of a tour .

Over the course of the three working days, the around 40 young employees, each with 100-400 participants, study a complete stage show and perform it on the evening of the last workshop day.

The aim of this work is to give the students artistic impulses and to develop their trust in their own creative powers. In addition, teamwork, interdisciplinary thinking, self-confidence and self-esteem are promoted.

The idea of intercultural encounters and the expansion of language skills in English also play an important role. However, especially in the area of motivation and new forms of work, the work of the Young Americans is trend-setting.

Between 2001 and 2007, ten series of workshops took place in a total of 200 cities throughout Germany and in the surrounding European countries, in the course of which many thousands of pupils and teachers at general schools and music schools were reached. Such projects also took place in schools in Germany in the following years up to 2018 and more are planned for 2019 and 2020.
