A Chorus Line (Musical)

A Chorus Line is one of the most successful Broadway - musicals . It ran from July 25, 1975 to April 28, 1990 on Broadway and held the record for the longest running musical with 6,137 performances. The first 101 performances took place off-Broadway at The Public Theater , after which it moved to the Shubert Theater because of its overwhelming success .

The idea for the musical came from Michael Bennett , who also choreographed and directed. The music is by Marvin Hamlisch , the lyrics by Edward Kleban , the book was written by James Kirkwood junior and Nicholas Dante . The plot is largely based on the memories of the cast of the original cast.

The musical describes the selection process ( casting ) for the cast of a planned Broadway musical. In a ruthless selection process, the applicants not only have to prove their skills, but also reveal something of their personality. In the end there are eighteen artists left, from which the director selects eight lucky ones.

Awards

The musical was nine Tony Awards , five Drama Desk Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for the theater, the New York Drama Critics 'Circle Award , the Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award, the London Evening Standard Award and a gold record by Columbia Records excellent.

In 1985 the musical by Sir Richard Attenborough with Michael Douglas in the role of Zach was filmed .
