Southland is an American drama television series about the personal and professional problems of a group of Los Angeles Police Department officers . It consists of five seasons with 43 episodes and was first broadcast from April 9 to May 21, 2009 on NBC and then from March 2, 2010 to April 17, 2013 on TNT . The German-language first broadcast began on August 28, 2012 on kabel eins .

action

The series shows the hard and often frustrating professional and private everyday life of a number of patrolmen and detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department. Many police officers have to struggle with health problems or a desperate private life, there are often conflicts with colleagues on duty, and operations and investigations are by no means always crowned with success.

One of the main characters is the young police officer Ben Sherman, who recently graduated from the police school. Right from the start he has to realize that everyday police work does not always follow the textbook and that personal problems of the police officers also affect their work. His partner John Cooper is initially skeptical of him because Sherman comes from wealthy circles. Other important characters are Detective Sammy Bryant, whose marriage is in deep crisis, Detective Lydia Adams, whose private life is suffering from her job, Officer Chickie Brown, Detective Daniel Salinger, Detective Nate Moretta and Detective Russell Clarke.

production

The series first aired on NBC on April 9, 2009 . The first season consists of only seven episodes. On May 1, 2009, NBC announced that Southland had been renewed for a second season of 13 episodes, which was scheduled to air on September 25, 2009. The start date of the second season was later postponed to October 23. On October 8, 2009, NBC unexpectedly announced that production had ceased.

TNT announced that they have acquired all of the rights to Southland's first season and the six episodes of the second season that have already been produced. TNT began broadcasting Southland on January 12, 2010 . The broadcaster did not initially plan to produce any further episodes, as they wanted to wait for the ratings for the 13 episodes produced.

Due to the satisfactory and increasing ratings, TNT ordered a third season in April 2010 and a fourth season in March 2011. On May 4, 2012, TNT announced the production of a fifth season, which will again consist of 10 episodes. The broadcast of the season was planned for February 2013. In May 2013, TNT announced the discontinuation of the series.
