Jamie McShane (* in Saddle River , New Jersey ) is an American actor . He gained fame primarily through his roles in the series Sons of Anarchy , Southland and Bloodline .

life and career

Jamie McShane grew up with four siblings in the US state of New Jersey. His interest in acting was sparked by an animated film about Peter Pan that he saw for the first time at the age of 5. Since then he has had the desire to work as an actor. He counts the actors Gene Hackman , Alan Alda , Steve McQueen and Clint Eastwood among his role models. In his youth he was also very enthusiastic about sports and played ice hockey, among other things. It took an injury to his head to end his dream of becoming a professional player. He then focused initially on tennis and later became a tennis teacher. After graduating from school, he began studying English at the University of Richmond in Virginia , from which he graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts . He then worked in three different professions to finance travel to other continents, including Europe and Asia. After returning to the United States, he first settled in New York City and worked there in various positions in film, including as an extra and in commercials. At the same time, he took up the martial arts Taekwondo and worked his way up to the black belt. He also published stories for children as a writer and worked for the family company for a while.

He got his first named role in front of the camera in 1997 when he appeared in the film Innocent! Susan runs pretending to be a deputy. Ten years after his return to the States, he then moved to the west coast of Los Angeles . His first television roles include appearances on the series New York Cops - NYPD Blue , Angel , Six Feet Under , Becker , Star Trek: Enterprise , Crossing Jordan - Profile Pathologist, and The X Files - The Scary Cases of FBI . In 2002 he presented the character of Ed in the short film Fine. For this he was awarded the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films for Best Actor . In 2014 McShane played a small role in the thriller Nightcrawler - Every Night Has Its Price and also portrayed the character of Donnelly in the crime drama Gone Girl - The Perfect Victim by director David Fincher . In the same year he also took on three recurring series supporting roles. In Murder in the First , he was cast as Justin Burnside , whom he played until 2016. Until 2017 he could be seen in Scorpion as Patrick Quinn , until 2018 as Donald Jacob in The Fosters . In 2015 McShane was cast as Eric O'Bannon in a supporting role in the series Bloodline , which he impersonated in all three seasons until 2017. In 2018, two more supporting roles followed in Bosch and Unsolved . In 2019 he was named Dr. Tim Fanning for the main cast on The Passage . He then appeared in Star Trek: Picard and SEAL Team in supporting roles. Also in 2019 he starred as Scotty Allan in the film drama Togo .

McShane lives in Los Angeles with his partner Heather in a blended family. Like her, he has two sons from a previous relationship. His entire oeuvre so far includes more than 130 film and television productions.
