The Nine - Die Geiseln (Original title: The Nine ) is an American television series that consists of only 13 episodes in a season and was produced between 2006 and 2007.
action
Nine people, who largely did not know each other at the time, enter a bank in Los Angeles and become hostages of an armed bank robbery. There are, for example, the lawyer Kathryn Hale, the doctor Dr. Jeremy Kates, his girlfriend Lizzie Miller and the gambling addict cop Nick Cavanaugh. Office worker Egan Foote, who originally planned to take his own life after going to the bank because of personal problems, is also taken hostage. The drama, which the bank employee Eva Rios is the only one not to survive next to a security guard, lasts 52 hours.
After the hostage-taking, most of those held in the bank are trying to get their lives back on track. Nine of them stay in contact with one another, support one another and sometimes also develop deeper relationships with one another. Although hailed as heroes by the public, the police consider them suspects as one of them may have leaked information to the bank robbers. In parallel to the further development of the plot, the 52 hours of the hostage drama are reconstructed bit by bit in flashbacks.

Background information
The series turned out to be a flop in the USA, so that not only did it end after one season, but the episodes produced were not even broadcast in full. The narrative structure is comparable to that of the television series Lost , where the life and fate of the main actors are also shown in flashbacks.
The Nine was shown from August 21, 2008 on the Austrian private broadcaster ATV and in Germany the series ran from September 5 to November 28, 2008 on Kabel eins on Fridays .
