Murder in the First is an American crime series that aired on TNT from June 2014 . For a whole season she tells of the investigation of a case in San Francisco , for example, in season 1 the murder of a drug addict is investigated. The series was developed by Steven Bochco and Eric Lodal. It first aired in the United States on June 9, 2014.

Terry English and Hildy Mulligan are detectives in San Francisco. The two, along with David Molk and Jim Koto, are investigating the murder of a drug addict. Her research leads her to Erich Blunt, who acts as CEO of a successful high-tech company and is hailed as a child prodigy from Silicon Valley . For Blunt and his allies Bill Wilkerson and Ivana West, chief developer of Blunt's company, the murder and connection come at a bad time as Erich Blunt plans to go public. He is also being sued by a former programmer who claims that Blunt stole the code for a revolutionary hologram system.
The detectives also have their own private problems. Hildy is the single mother of the curious Louise. Terry has to deal with the fact that his wife Emily is dying. But all of this is forgotten when another murder occurs.

The pilot episode of the series was commissioned by TNT in January 2013 . Behind the project is Steven Bochco , who produced the law series Raising The Bar for TNT from 2008 to 2009 . The two main roles in the series were cast around two months later with Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson . Another leading role went to Harry Potter star Tom Felton .
In September 2013, the station ordered a first season with ten episodes for the summer of 2014. Due to constant audience ratings, the series was extended on September 12, 2014 by a second season. In December 2015, it was extended by a ten-part third season.
In October 2016, TNT announced the discontinuation of the series after three seasons.

The serial junkies critic Felix Böhme awarded 3 out of 5 stars for the pilot episode. In his review he wrote the following:
“'Murder in the First' delivers a decent pilot episode, with good actors and noticeable potential. But where is that certain something? Maybe it will come with the further consequences. It would be at least desirable and could possibly push 'Murder in the First' to a higher than a 'just' solid level. "
