The origins of football in the region date back to 1869 when Plasmadoc FC was founded by the Thomson brothers. Three years later, Ruabon Rovers FC and Ruabon Volunteers FC joined the club, which was then called Ruabon Druids FC.

Samuel Llewelyn is considered the father of Welsh football. First as a player, then as a lawyer and founder of the Football Association of Wales , he organized the first international match against Scotland.
In the next season the club was in the first of a total of 14 finals in the cup , six times in a row between 1879/80 and 1884/85. Between 1880 and 1894, thirty Druid players were also represented in 44 international matches.

In the League of Wales , founded in 1992, the club was a founding member and played there for eleven years until relegation in 2010. Since 2014/15 , he was back in the first division, but rose again directly.
