history

The association was founded in 1884. He plays his games in Park Avenue Stadium , a multi-purpose stadium with 5,000 seats, of which 1,002 seats. The club also has a women's team that plays in the Ceredigion Ladies League . In 2000, the club founded the Aberystwyth Town Football Club Academy , which serves to train young players.

The early history of the club was marked by a large number of friendly games , as the league entry did not take place until 1896, but they left after a year. From 1904 they played in the Montgomeryshire and District League , in which they won the title a few times. After founding the Welsh National League in 1921, they played in the Central Section , whose title they won six times in the 1920s.

In 1931 and 1950 they won the Welsh Amateur Cup , twice they were only defeated in the finals (1935 and 1972). In 1951 they entered the Welsh League (South) , which they belonged to until 1963. That year they moved back to the Mid-Wales League , but they didn't get their first title until 1984 after finishing second six times in the league. In 1985 they were able to defend their title. In 1987 they returned to the Welsh League (South) before becoming a founding member of the League of Wales in 1992 . In their first year they also achieved their best result, a third place. In 1999 and 2004 they took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup , but were eliminated in the first round.

In the 2013/14 season, the club reached the final of the Welsh Cup , in which they defeated The New Saints FC 2: 3. Since the Saints were already qualified as champions for the UEFA Champions League , Aberystwyth Town qualified for the UEFA Europa League 2014/15 . In the first qualifying round they were clearly defeated by the Irish representative Derry City with 0: 4 and 0: 5.
