Carmarthen Town (officially: Carmarthen Town Association Football Club ) is a football club from the Welsh town of Carmarthen in the county of Carmarthenshire , which currently plays in the Cymru Premier , the top division of Welsh.
history
The association was founded in 1948. In the 1995/96 season he won the championship in the second-rate Football League, Div. 1 and the first promotion to the Welsh Premier League was achieved . Since then, the club has established itself there and reached the final in the cup competition in 1999 and the league cup in 2004, but had to admit defeat there. In 2001 Carmarthen Town took part in the league in the UEFA Intertoto Cup , but was eliminated in the first round against AIK Solna . In the 2004/05 season Carmarthen Town then reached the first club title when he defeated the reigning champions, cup and league cup winners Rhyl FC 2-0 after extra time in the final of the Welsh League Cup . Carmarthen Town also reached the Welsh Cup final in the same year , where he lost 1-0 to The New Saints FC . With the cup success, Carmarthen Town also qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time . There succeeded in the first qualifying round a 5-1 home win in the second leg against the Irish club Longford Town and thus the move into the next round, in which the team remained goalless against FC Copenhagen and was eliminated.
Another triumph came in 2007, this time in the Welsh Cup , where Afan Lido FC was beaten 3-2. As a result, Carmarthen Town once again qualified for the UEFA Cup , but this time failed in the first round to Brann Bergen from Norway. After a fourth place in the 2008/09 season , the club no longer played a role in the battle for the top spots, but often only barely saved itself from relegation. In the 2012/13 season, Carmarthen Town won the league cup again in the final against The New Saints FC on penalties and also qualified in the league for the championship round of the top six teams.
