Newtown Association Football Club ( Welsh Clwb Pêl-droed Y Drenewydd ) is a football club from Newtown, Wales. The club plays in the Welsh Premier League . The reserve team currently plays in the Mid Wales Football League.

The club was founded in 1875 as the Newtown White Stars and was a founding member of the Football Association of Wales . The club is set in Latham Park, Newtown, which seats 5,000 (610 seats).

The team plays in red shirts, red shorts and red socks. The third kits are yellow shirts with black shorts and yellow socks.

Club history

The Newtown White Stars won the Welsh Cup against Wrexham FC in 1879 and again against Wrexham FC after being renamed Newtown AFC in 1895. It wasn't until 60 years later that the 1955 Welsh Amateur Cup was again a national trophy. The club was in the final three times. In 1881 and 1886 they lost to Druids FC, in 1888 to FC Chirk AAA.

In 1992, the club was rather reluctant founding member of the League of Wales, in which he was runner-up in 1995/96 and 1997/98. Internationally, he played in the European Cup against teams from Latvia and Poland.

The 2014/15 season ended Newtown in 6th place, which allowed them to participate in the playoffs for participation in the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League . There they prevailed and played European again after 17 years.
