Toponymy

The place is first mentioned in 1454 as Debvrouse . The origin of the name is not clear, at best it can be traced back to the Celtic term Dubro for flowing water.

It can be assumed that the place Devrouze is not the oldest settlement in the municipality, as early as 1364 Dyombes (today Diombe) is mentioned. In 1374 Cuens appear (now Quain) and Hugue de Vartes (now Voite) is mentioned. In 1376 Ronfand is also mentioned for the first time.

history

The Devrouze estate belonged to the Mervans barony , along with Diconne, and was owned by different families. At the beginning of the 16th century it belonged to Léonarde de Beaumont , who married Jean Bataille in 1530 . Later it came to Hugues de Mâlain , then to Jeanne de Mâlain , whom she bequeathed to her nephew Jérôme de Biollet in 1579 . As a result, the Fyot took over rule in 1660. After further changes of ownership within the family, Claude Fyot , Count of Bosjean , became the owner. He was the first President of the Parlement of Burgundy, and in 1736 his property was elevated to a marquisate in his favor . In 1804 the rule was divided into Diconne and Devrouze . Devrouze was a parish of Diconne , the church was built in 1863 and consecrated to Saint Martin . There was also a chapel in the hamlet of Henrys . Ronfand formed its own rule. One of the owners, Arnoux de Ronfand , had a modern castle built there, which was completely rebuilt in 1863. St-Germain-Devrouse station closed in 1997. In the hamlets of Quain and Mercey there were mills on the river Briant , in town and in Quatre Chemins there were forges. In Quain there was a factory that processed chicken feathers and made one of the bricks needed to build the Bressan houses . In 1901 the Mairie- École was built. In 1988 there were still 24 farms.
