Toponymy

The first mention of the place goes back to the year 1255, as Dominus de Bosco Johannis , already 1275 the Ecclesia de Bosco Johanni is mentioned. The name of this Johanniswäldchen suggests that what is now the municipality was once heavily forested.

history

In the 13th century Boz-Jouhan was a fief of the lords of Vienne . A castle stood in the hamlet of Saint-Jean , but burned down around 1475. In 1517 Charles Bouton acquired the fiefdom, through the marriage of Dorothée Bouton the rule came to Léonor de Saint-Mauris de Montbarrey , in 1634 it was raised to a county, together with other surrounding estates. In 1680 it belonged to Claude Fyot III. de la Marche , abbot of the Saint-Etienne monastery in Dijon. By inheritance, the rule remained with the family, in 1790 Madeleine-Mélanie Fyot de la Marche was widow of Dominique de Barberie , Baroness of Montpont and Countess of Bosjean. In addition to Bosjean, the county now includes the municipalities of Sens-sur-Seille , Le Tartre , Le Planois and part of Frangy-en-Bresse .

The Gothic church is dedicated to St. Andochius and was heavily rebuilt in the 19th century. In the center of the village is the Mairie-École from 1842, opposite the boys 'school from 1902. A girls' school was built in 1851 and another school in 1912 in the hamlet of Panissière . In Petite-Bêche there was a mill, in 1988 there were still 29 farms.
