Toponymy

Saint-André-en-Bresse was a branch church of the Benedictine Abbey of Tournus in the 12th century and is first mentioned in 1119. Ecclesia Sancti-Andree appeared in Brissia as early as 1362 , which gave the municipality its current name. After the revolution, the place was called Franc-Cœur , which means something like Free Heart .

history

The estate and the castle belonged to the de Brancion family , then passed to the de Ténarre , the Clugny and finally to the Marquis de Bourbonne, Count of Avaux . Thien has also been mentioned as a fiefdom of the Branges rulership since the 13th century , just as Montangelin was mentioned in 1400.

The church probably dates from 1731 and was renovated in 1836. However, a church must have existed as early as the 12th century, the fate of which is not known. Every September there is a pilgrimage to a nearby oratory where a stone virgin with child from the 18th century stands. A mixed school was built in 1852, the current schoolhouse dates from 1878. There was a mill in Brigot which ceased operations in 1960. In 1988 there were still 10 farms.
