Toponymy

Cluny Abbey is mentioned as early as 833 in the books : In pago Ludgunense, in villa Bandingas (German: in the Gau von Louhans, in the village of Bandingas). In 1155 the Capella de Vendangiis is mentioned. It can therefore be assumed that the place was built in Gallo-Roman times and refers to an owner of the area, which was therefore settled early on. The church mentioned in 1155 was obviously replaced by a new building in the 16th century, which was expanded in the 19th century. Today it is dedicated to Saint Vincent .

history

The rule of Bantange, like most of the areas of the Louhans region , was owned by the de Vienne family , then passed to the d ' Uxelles and at the end of the 16th century to the Saint-Clément de Taizé . Eventually Philibert Potet bought the rule, he was a knight, maître des requêtes , royal council. In his time, namely 1675, Bantanges was made a marquisate . His son, Jean-Baptiste Potet , lost control in 1696, just as the barony of Saint-Germain-du-Plain , to his creditors, François Guyet , lord of La Faye , financial director of Lyon , who in turn into a Marquisat let rise , but in a hereditary one. The stately castle stood in Dallemand and was built at the beginning of the 18th century. Guyet left a daughter, Philiberte Thérèse , married to Jérôme, Count of Chamillard , Maréchal des camps et armées du Roi . The marquise died in 1774 without an heir, the ruins of the castle were used to build the Dallemand mill and the reign passed to her nephew, Gagne de Perrigny . In 2008 the municipality was allowed to wear the Chamillard coat of arms as the municipality's coat of arms .

Part of Bantanges belonged to the barony of Montpont , and in the hamlet of Grande-Buclière there was a castle over the Sâne Morte . It must have been an important castle, given the numerous rubble that was found and the moat that is now leveled (after Guillemaut , Armoiries).

The municipality is located in a rather delicate area, as the waters that they cross drain large stretches of the Jura. The following natural disasters are noted recently:

  • Storm damage from November 6-10, 1982
  • Floods and debris flows from December 8th to 31st, 1982
  • Floods and debris flows from May 12-13, 1983
  • Floods and debris flows from October 5th to 10th, 1993
  • Floods and debris flows from October 24-26, 1999
  • Earthmoving as a result of the drought and subsequent water balance from July 1 to September 30, 2003
