Frontenaud is a French commune in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the Arrondissement Louhans and the Canton of Cuiseaux . The place has 729 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). The inhabitants are Frontenaliens , respectively. Called Frontenaliennes .

Frontenaud is ten kilometers southeast of Louhans near the department road D972 (Louhans - Cuiseaux ), an old Roman road . The A39 motorway touches the eastern municipal area. The river Solnan forms the western boundary of the municipality . In addition, La Dourlande flows from south to north and flows south of the Bourg into the Gizia , which flows from the south-east through the entire municipality to flow northwest of Frontenaud into the Solnan. In the far east of the municipality is part of the junction N ° 9 - Le Miroir (Cuiseaux - Cousance ) and the Milleure industrial park . The community is only sparsely forested. Toponymy

The place appears for the first time around 1131 as a Frontonacum , probably as the possession of a Frontinus, Frontus or similar. During the 15th century, the place had the widespread form of the possessive suffix -ay , which developed from the Latin -acum and was then called Frontenay .

history

The eastern part of the municipality belonged to the lands owned by the Miroir monastery , Fausses and other hamlets were part of Varennes-Saint-Sauveur and belonged to the Cessia family , Saffre belonged to the Vitte family in Louhans. A mill is mentioned as early as 1270 at Gizia , and there were at least two brick factories. In the hamlet of Les Îles , near the village center, there was a castle on a hill, surrounded by ditches that were fed by the Gizia .

Economy and Infrastructure

In addition to the Mairie and the church, there are 14 farms, a bakery, a grocery store, a restaurant, six construction companies and a garage in the community. Crème et beurre de Bresse are approved as AOC products in Frontenaud , as are Volaille de Bresse and Dinde de Bresse .

Educational institutions

In the municipality there is an École primaire ( École maternelle and École élémentaire ), which is subordinate to the Académie de Dijon and attended by 49 children. The vacation schedule for zone A applies to the school.
